The primary was crucial, but the General Election on November 3 is just as important — moreso, for a number of great candidates in the county. The Haag campaign continues, with significant work to do. In addition, we’re actively helping several vital area campaigns. If you can help out, please do! Here are some key opportunities.
- Matt’s looking for volunteers to go door to door as we work toward a victory on election day November 3rd.
- Along the way, we want to help two great Democrats win their own re-election campaigns in the 23rd and 24th Legislative Districts, County Legislators Paul Haney and Harry Bronson. If you are interested in helping, email Matt directly and let him know the days and times you are available.
- Democratic HQ has asked for a few volunteers once a week from now until Election Day (that’s only 3 times) to help with their mass mailings. Specifically, help is needed from 5:30-8:30 on the next 3 Monday nights. Contact Tad at MCDC, at 232-2410.
- Additionally, Jo Meleca-Voigt is running for the County Legislature in Greece (19th LD). Her victory will be crucial in our efforts to gain a Democratic majority on the county legislature for the first time in many years. Additionally, Jo’s election would be an historic first as she would become the first lesbian elected to the legislature.
Tom Privetere, Jo’s campaign manager, says that right now, Jo needs help with phone banking. Tom writes:
We have scheduled phone banks for Jo at MCDC from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following dates and we need any volunteers to help us with just TWO HOURS of their time to donate to Jo’s campaign (MORE it they can, of course).
The schedule, with times reserved at MCDC, University Ave (map), is:
Monday, October 5th thru Thursday, October 8th. That’s four (4) evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.And again four weeks from now for three (3) evenings, during the CRUCIAL WEEK BEFORE ELECTION DAY:
October 26th, 27th and 28th (M, T, W), again from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Tom and Jo have been great friends and tremendous Matt Haag supporters, and we’d love to do anything we can to help their campaign to put Jo on the County Legislature, as part of a new Democratic majority. Call Tom directly at 230-7138 for the latest details &/or volunteer, or just show up when you can, at one of time slots above. THANKS!
WE WON !
The people have spoken. The election results from Tuesday’s primary show that the entire Democratic slate of five (from a field of 14) was elected. Technically, they were actually nominated to go on to the general election in November, where there will be no Republican competition.
Matt writes:
If you haven’t heard the news yet, my campaign for Rochester City Council was successful. It was an “at large” race, with five open seats going to the top five vote-getters in a field of 14. We came in #3, in the middle of an outstanding group of five mostly established, familiar Rochester political figures. That’s an enormous accomplishment, given that three years ago I didn’t even live in Rochester.
My victory yesterday was the result of enormous hard work by a fairly large number of people. I want to say a very special thank you to the volunteers who spent countless hours dialing phones and going door-to-door, helping to get my message of change and progress out to the voters.
To all of you who worked hard on the campaign: Thank you.
To the citizens of Rochester, and to those who came to the polls and expressed their confidence in my vision: I look forward to working just as hard as your representative on City Council. It will be an honor to serve you.
Matt Haag
