Democrat Matt Haag embodies what effective local government officials should be all about- – a committed citizen who cares enough to step up to lead our community. As a life long political activist, Matt has been fighting for social and economic justice for many years. He understands what kids, neighborhoods, parents, and mom-and-pop store owners want and need from their local officials. Matt is also prepared and more than capable to deliver on that promise.

I first met Matt several months ago when I interviewed him for a story for the Empty Closet Newspaper. When he tells you he is confident that he can make a valuable contribution to improving the quality of life for all who call Rochester home, you believe him. Employed as the University of Rochester Senior Director of Major Gifts and Regional Programs, Matt turned a department of 4 staff members into 25 good paying jobs in less than two years.

Matt was president of a very large suburban neighborhood association a few years ago. Living in a city with urban issues much like our own and under Matt’s leadership, he took a challenged neighborhood and successfully turned it into a vibrant and exciting place to live, work and play.

Right now, Matt is seeking solutions that will create job growth through economic development and he is promoting eco-friendly green initiatives. He is also exploring convenient and green options for Rochester’s many commuters like high speed rail. Matt calls our parks and open space one of Rochester’s greatest assets.

When Rochester residents began seeing a committed, qualified candidate like Matt who focused squarely on the issues most important to them, they immediately started to trust him. I’ve seen this happen with my own eyes. Because the truth is, all of us who really care about the future of Rochester want the same thing– to live in a cleaner city with more jobs, higher graduation rates, no graffiti and safer streets.

Matt has already opened the hearts and minds of his fellow citizens. He is totally committed to helping our city find solutions that work for all our families no matter how we define them. Matt is that progressive, rational, coherent voice we have been waiting for.

Like any good Democrat, Matt knows he’ll wear out more than a few pairs of shoes walking his district, knocking on doors and meeting voters during this campaign.

I hope to lighten his load just a little bit by asking you to support his campaign today. And the reason is simple: we need fresh thinking and original perspectives on City Council. We have a great opportunity here– to elect someone with outstanding credentials and a willingness to serve.

Won’t you sign up as a volunteer today?

Mike! Great job with the site…photos are cool….Also, I’m very proud of the fact our candidate received the very prestigious national Victory Fund endorsement. Way to go, Matt!

I appreciated the door-to-door effort that Matt Haag made in my neighborhood. I regret not taking the opportunity that day to express my particular concern regarding city government. When might I have another opportunity to talk to him about an issue? In advance, thanks for responding.
